1. BASE MATERIALS

There are two common materials for bases: p-tex and sintered. P-tex is softer, making it easier to glide across snow, so it's great for beginners just starting. Sintered material is a harder material better suited for intermediate skiers and above.

The stability a ski offers increases with its width. However, wide skis have a drawback in that they perform poorly on groomed slopes and have restricted mobility in some types of powder snow. The best ski perform admirably in all circumstances while keeping their tips and tails light and agile.
