Range hood power or air circulation is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Get a range hood with at least 350 CFM if you perform a lot of heavy cooking that creates steam or strong aromas. 1. How much CFM should a range hood have?

You need at least 100 CFM for every 10,000 BTUs of cooktop power to power your range hood. A 100,000 BTU stove, for example, requires at least a 1000 CFM range hood. Multiply the width of an electric stove by ten. So, for a 42" electric stove, a range hood with at least 420 CFM is required.

2. Is higher CFM preferable than lower CFM?

A greater CFM rating is usually preferable for your kitchen fan. A high CFM hood may always be used on lesser settings. It provides excellent ventilation by moving a large volume of air per minute. If you cook frequently or prefer Asian cuisine, a powerful fan is required to keep oil out of your kitchen exhaust system.

3. What if the CFM is too low?

You won't be able to operate your equipment continuously—or at all—if you have too little CFM, and too much CFM might mean you've overspent on your air compressor!
