BUYING GUIDE

1. Size

The first thing you'll notice about snowboard sizes is that they aren't listed in inches. Board sizes are measured in centimeters, from nose to tail. For example, a board that is 152 centimeters would be roughly equivalent to a size eight shoe (there is 10 cm in one inch). Children's boards can range from 80 cm to 140cm in length.

2. Shape

There are two basic shapes for snowboards- twin tips and freestyle boards. Twin tip snowboards are slightly longer to allow better stability in powder and around trees. Freestyle boards – slightly shorter, wider, and thinner to allow better maneuverability and control.

3. Ability

If you are just beginning your journey on the slopes, keep in mind that starting with a softer snowboard is a good beginner's tip. A softer board is easier to ride because it absorbs more impact, thereby reducing your chances of injury. You probably want something durable and strong... No one likes to replace snowboards frequently.

FAQs

1. Which materials are the best for a snowboard?

Carbon fiber, basalt fiber, and bamboo top the list of most durable materials for a snowboard. Carbon is rigid and strong; basalt is lightweight and soft to give you comfort on your ride, while bamboo is both bendable and lightweight. Another material often used is wood, but wood's durability and strength vary depending on the type of wood.

2. What are the different snowboard shapes?

The most common shapes are the directional twin, camber, and rocker. Directional twins allow you to ride in either direction while on a slope and provide better stability during turns. Camber boards have a slight upward bend in their middle, giving you more control over your board. Rocker boards feature a downward curve that allows you to engage in deeper turns.

3. What type of binding should I get?

To accommodate your boot in your snowboard, you will need to choose between three types of bindings: toe straps, ratchet systems, and step-in bindings. Toe straps are the most affordable way to go as it does not require a boot with special binding. A ratchet system ties down the heel and toe of your shoes for added security. Step-in bindings are used with high-performance boots that include a special fitting for your foot.
