1. Different shapes and sizes
Snowboarding uses three different size categories: mini, regular, and full-size. Each of these categories corresponds to the density of each board in its size. For example, a full-sized board is huge compared to a regular, which is a very small comparison. The same goes for each category when it comes to shape. A mini-camber board would have a camber profile, while a full-camber would not.
2. Flex
The flexibility of a snowboard is measured in three categories: Maxflex, Highflex, and Low flex. The more flex it has, the better it will ride on hard snow and powder. Full-sized boards are generally in the Maxflex category, while regular and mini boards are found to be low or high flex depending on their manufacturers' choice (often because they're cheaper to produce).
3. Repairing a snowboard
No matter how careful you are, your snowboard will eventually get damaged to the point where you'll need to repair it. New boards cost a fortune, but if you buy used boards, they can be fixed up rather easily. Even though the board will lose some flex over time, it should be fine if you don't abuse it. Remember that when you buy used boards from consignment shops or Amazon and the board arrives damaged or broken, tell them ASAP because it may not be under warranty anymore, and they may have to pay for the damages. Always check for chips or cracks before buying a used snowboard to beat any potential problems to the punch.
1. What is camber?
Camber is a shape with a blunt edge on one side, then sloped edges going into the nose/tail. All your weight and momentum will move towards that blunt side when you ride a camber. The idea behind this kind of board is that you'll be able to carve with ease and force while the other side enhances your stability while riding straight. On smaller boards, the "go" snowboard would be shaped like this with little or no camber.
2. How do I determine whether my board is cambered?
Some boards are best ridden with little or no camber to get the best turn shape.
3. How does camber affect my ride?
Camber is found in all the traditional shapes, but it can affect the ride differently. A snowboard with a loose base will be able to stay on top of hard snow and give you better speed with its camber profile. On the other hand, a board with a tight base will make it harder for you to get speed and give you stability when riding in powder. When buying a board, always try out its camber profile at demos or local shops before you make any purchase.
