The Backcountry skiing industry is constantly evolving, and as such, the best backcountry skis are constantly changing. The boots and skins we used to use when skiing in the backcountry still work well, but we can't get that same performance as a newer model. That's why it's important to read through this list before you purchase your next pair of models for the best backcountry skis.

✔️Best Use: If you're looking for the perfect tool for shredding in the field, go no further; the 105mm Zero G solves the conundrum of full-length cross-country skis that need light for the uphill but fast for the downhill.

✔️Carbon Drive 2.0: It combines a 3D unidirectional carbon fiber frame with a lightweight Paulownia chassis. We can minimize weight on the ski while still providing structure for performance by using wood core construction.

✔️New Zero G Structure: The highest downhill performance at the lightest weight; a long contact surface for improved stability on any terrain; and a larger radius side cut for the most forgiving and least sticky skis…. Read more

They can handle most any conditions you throw at them and their lighter weight makes them easy to carry around as you hit the powder. Another thing about these skis is that they're super easy to put on a boot binding too, so it's no longer a chore to get out there and hit some deep lines in the backcountry.

BUYING GUIDE

1. Length

You'll first want to consider the length of your skis. The length of the ski is going to depend on what you're planning on using them for. If you just want something that can handle powder and crud, then an extra wide pair of short skis will work fine.

2. Width And Sidecut

It's important to look at these features together because they contribute to how much stability you'll get out of each ski. When skiing in deep powder, sometimes it is better to ski on a pair of skis with fewer sidecuts because they can be more forgiving.

3. Weight

You'll want to pick a pair of light skis if you're going a long distance out in the backcountry. The lighter the skis are, the easier it will be for you to carry them when you're off the beaten path and roughing it in the backcountry for days.

FAQs

1. What are the benefits of backcountry skiing?

The shape of downhill and backcountry skis is the same. The fundamental distinction between these two types of skis is the ski's weight. Downhill skis are heavier, which makes them more stable at high speeds and mutes snow irregularities. Backcountry skis are lighter in weight to make walking uphill simpler.

2. How should you choose a backcountry ski?

Choose lighter, nimbler skis for effective uphill climbing if you intend to spend as much time skinning as ripping turns. If capturing big air or descending is your primary goal, you may not want to sacrifice downhill power or stability; instead, consider wider skis with more heft.

3. Can I ski on groomed tracks with my backcountry skis?

Touring skis are suitable for both groomed and ungroomed routes. Because of their ruggedness, they are sometimes known as "backcountry" skis. These skis are often longer, lighter in weight, and slightly thicker in breadth to provide additional stability to skiers who choose to explore untracked terrain.
